Austwide Legal was established in 2016 and provides advice in relation to land access, tenure compliance, native title and heritage for mining and exploration companies in Western Australia

Our Team

Paul has over 25 years’ experience as a Barrister and Solicitor, specialising in Native Title , Mining Law, Building and Construction Law, Commercial Law and Civil Litigation.

He also has extensive experience in conveyancing, including property documentation and commercial transactions.

Along with his strong legal background, Paul also has experience in office management including recruitment and training of staff.

Paul has a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Murdoch University and a Bachelor of Business (BBus) in Marketing from Edith Cowan University.

Evan is an experienced energy and resources lawyer, specialising in commercial, corporate governance, regulatory and compliance matters. He has an established track record of in-house experience with several major mining, oil and gas, and global services companies, both in Australia and Asia.

He has provided sound advice on a wide variety of legal matters including, drafting and negotiating various commercial agreements, complex regulatory approvals and investigations, risk assessment and management, and regulatory compliance management systems. He also has extensive experience in the conduct of internal investigations relating to anti-bribery and corruption, competition law, fraud, employment, and EHS issues.

Evan has a Bachelor or Business (Finance) from Edith Cowan University, a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance from the Financial Services Institute of Australia, and a Juris Doctor (Hons) from Murdoch University. He was admitted to the Supreme Court of Western Australia in August 2013.

Catinca Hozoc-Martin holds a Bachelor of Arts (Communication and Media Studies and Modern History) from the University of Western Australia and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Murdoch University. She was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Western Australia in November 2021.

Since admission, Catinca has practiced exclusively in Native Title and Mining Law, advising both Traditional Owner groups and mining companies. She regularly appears before the Warden’s Court of Western Australia and the National Native Title Tribunal and has assisted in Native Title matters before the Federal Court of Australia.

Catinca’s experience includes representing parties in the Mining Warden’s Court in matters involving mining tenement applications, interlocutory proceedings, and forfeiture applications. She also has extensive experience in the National Native Title Tribunal, acting in expedited procedure and right to negotiate matters, including section 150 conferences and inquiries.

Nicholas graduated from the University of Western Australia in 2023 with a degree in Law and joined Austwide Legal as a Law Graduate in the same year. He was later admitted to the Supreme Court of Western Australia in August 2024.

Nicholas assists clients with resolving issues related to land access, Mining Act tenure, managing objections in the Warden’s Court, negotiating agreements with Traditional Owner Groups and Prescribed Bodies Corporate (PBCs), and providing general commercial advice regarding exploration and mining projects.

Brendan is a member of the institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. Mr Newman began his career in taxation and business services working for boutique advisory companies and has over 10 years’ experience in the public accounting profession.

Mr Newman is an experienced professional accountant with a borad range of corporate governance and business services accounting experience
